The battery stores electrical energy, the starter turns the engine for starting, and the alternator supplies electrical power and recharges the battery while the engine runs. Will a bad alternator make the car click?

An alternator can leave the battery discharged, which may produce clicking, but the battery, cables and starter circuit still need testing.

Can a bad battery test at normal voltage?

Yes. Open-circuit voltage alone does not prove capacity or performance under load. Battery testing should consider state of charge, condition and application.

Why does my car start with a jump but die later?
